FIFA 18 WORLD CUP MOTOS – ISCO, RAKITIC, SCHMEICHEL, AKINFEEV

FIFA 18 WORLD CUP MOTOS - ISCO, RAKITIC, SCHMEICHEL, AKINFEEV

Goalkeepers Igor Akinfeev and Danijel Subašić were the stars of the show Sunday as both matches went to penalties in the World Cup knockout round: a rare phenomenon. The Russian captain saved two penalties, from Koke and Iago Aspas, respectively, to push the host nation through to the quarterfinals over 2010 winners Spain. Later, Croatia added another chapter to their Cinderella story with a nail-biting finish against Denmark. Akinfeev and Subasic jump to an 85 and 86 in-game from 80 and 83 respectively.
Spain took the lead ten minutes in, off a ridiculous set-piece scrum goal that ended up being awarded as an own goal to Sergei Ignashevich. Russia countered with a penalty four minutes before halftime, which was created and put in by recent Russian hero Artem Dzyuba.
The loss to Spain meant the final international match for generational midfield legend Andrés Iniesta, who announced his retirement shortly after the final whistle. Rising star, Isco, who seems poised to lead Spain’s next generation, drew high marks once again for his performance in the losing effort. Isco’s second and final ratings jump goes from 87 to 89. He began FUT 18 World Cup as an 86.
The Croatia-Denmark matchup took off at an alarming pace, with two goals scored in the first four minutes. Mathias Jørgensen scored the quickest goal of the World Cup off a corner, just 57 seconds in, while Croatia counteracted the Danes with a Mario Mandžukić strike. Subašić put on an absolute clinic between the sticks, vying against his counterpart, Danish keeper Kasper Schemeichel, saving three penalties en route to a 3-2 win. Schmeichel goes from an 83 overall to an 86.
Croatia’s midfielder duo of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic were once again all class, with the latter, who scored the clinching penatly, the recipient of EA’s outfield player nod for the night’s econd match. Rakitic’s second FUT WC MOTM honor sees him go from an 87 to an 89 after starting the mode as an 86 overall.
